Try first to upgrade form v1.5 to v1.6 (I have never updated from v1.5).
For the migration from v1.6 to v2 is a migation script:

i try the full step as written in the file, but gives me errors all the time in 1.6 to v2 version

Cannot declare class pluginMaintenanceMode, because the name is already in use in /var/www/vhosts/shinysecurity.nl/httpdocs/bl-plugins/maintenance-mode/plugin.php on line 0
When i delete the old plugins from maintenaince see :

Yes, after the migration all plugins have to be reinstalled.
I wrote a tutorial in German, it has some more details than the instruction that comes with the script.

Have you made an update from v1.5 to v1.6, and then to v.2.3, or from v1.5 to v2.3?
