Duplicated Images and Folders

I was looking at my site today and noticed on the about page, that it states my site is 167MB. I only have around 30 posts all of which include an image. What I noticed in researching a large amount of disk space being used, I see that in my /bl-content/uploads folder there are some folders...images, media, pages, profiles, thumbnails, thumbs, and all the images ever used on my site (including images from deleted posts) and in the thumbs folder...images, media, thumbnails, thumbs and all the images used in each one of my posts.

I am not sure why this has been duplicated. I was originally using Bludit and then upgraded to Pro, but that was quite a long time ago (roughly 3 years ago).

Any ideas? How can I know which folders/files I can remove without messing up the site? I have created a backup just now so I am sure I will be fine if I start deleting, but wanted to check first.

At the moment I'm unable to reproduce the problem.

Have you upgraded your installation from an earlier version?

Yes. Been using Bludit for 3 years so several upgrades have taken place over time. I'm going to experiment and delete some of the extra files and see what happens. I have a backup.
